& Dysport > Procedure Information
Certain proteins injected into the muscles of facial expression can weaken or eliminate the ability of these muscles to contract. These proteins (Botox, Dysport) can therefore reverse the lines of facial expression caused by these muscles. Also, in the case of frowning, our inability to frown (body language) changes others’ perception of our demeanor even though they are not consciously aware of why their impression has changed. Botox and Dysport work by interrupting the connection between the nerve endings and the muscle fibers. New nerve endings develop and grow to replace the interrupted ones so the effects of the injection usually lasts four to six months. With repeated injections however, the effects last longer as the muscles gradually atrophy due to lack of nerve stimulation. When used carefully and in proper amounts, the use of Botox or Dysport is a safe and effective way to improve one’s appearance.
